Concept note – My graphic novel is focused on spreading awareness among the younger generations from ages 12 – 25 years about the snakebite mitigation through a story and characters they all can relate with. The motive of the graphic novel is to make people learn about steps of snakebite mitigation and prevention through visuals more than text, though a detailed text about each step is also provided .The novel features a 10 year old child who has infinite questions about snakes and the curiosity to know about them, growing up in an Indian household in a rural town he has been hearing many stories, myths and folklores about snakes and their involvement in Indian culture, these factors had ignited his curiosity about snakes and the questions arise. The child is seen asking his father constantly the questions about snakes when his father gives him a comic book with a character, a superhero who has powers of a snake and fights against a faith healer who spreads superstitions and misconceptions about snakes and create a fearful environment for both humans and snakes. In comic we see a child who’s been bitten by a snake and is being taken too a faith healer by his mother then we see the hero come at the right time just before the faith healer is starting the treatment, as the hero fights and debates with the faith healer we learn about the steps of snakebite mitigation, what to do and what not to, prevention from encounters with snakes and their importance in our ecosystem. The name of the child in the end is known to be as ‘Suresh’ which is a reference to Vava Suresh, a conservator, snake rescuer and a enviornment worker who is often called as “ Snakeman of india” because of the number of snakes and people he has saved by right methods and spreading right information and awareness.
